RUSHFORD LAKE CONSERVATION CLUB NEWSLETTER Jan. 12, 2008 P.O. Box 383, Rushford, NY 14777 Phone: 585-437-2742
PRESIDENTS REPORT By Dave DeRum Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. As usual things slow down a little at the club during January and February, unfortunately our bills do not, but our events this past year all had excellent turnouts, along with great nightly turnouts all summer (for some reason our Thursday nights have become as busy as some of our Fridays or Saturdays) which again has allowed us to remain operating comfortably in the black. Thanks to everyone! Again. THINK SPRING… and we’ll see you soon!
The following is the list of elected officers and board of directors for ’08-‘09 Dave DeRum - President Norm Bauman Jack McMahon Dale Mc Intyre - Vice-President Pat Burns Bill Witkoph Maryann Scholes - Treasurer Dick Clawson Roy Ernst Jay Zieja - Secretary Harvey Wood Dick Scholes - Sergeant-at-arms
FINANCE COMMITTEE Chairman Dave DeRum In keeping with the request of the board to “keep it short”… all of our suppliers are paid, the school and property taxes for ‘08 are paid, the lights are on, its warm inside, and we still have money left in the bank! Any member who would like to see a detailed copy of our ’07 finances can call or ask any board member.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Chairman Jackie Hull To help remind members about their July ‘08 dues and avoid the late fee we again are including a dues slip in our spring newsletter. And because the “early bird” member’s only gun raffle had such a good response we though we would make it an annual event . Marie Thorton won our 1st annual Gun raffle, good luck on our 2nd annual. Check out last page for details. As of Jan.1, 2008, we have 302 paid members, which include 57 new members that joined in ‘07 and 78 who have not yet paid their July 07 dues. Your $20- 08-09 dues are due July 1st, after July 31st, $20 plus a $5 late fee. At that time any member still in arrears for July ‘07 dues shall forfeit privileges until both are paid. Your dues can be paid at the bar or can be sent to the address above – attention Jackie Hull. Also if you would like this newsletter e-mailed to you, enter your e-mail address on dues payment slip, the more the better. It will save us a lot of time and postage. We hope to have this set up soon. HOUSE COMMITTEE Chairman Bar – Dave DeRum / Hall – Jackie Hull Our new beer cooler was delivered early last summer. And has cut our electric bill by $75 a month !! Thanks to fellow member John Canata from Buffalo Hotel Supply for all his help. Next on the list, for this spring, hopefully will be a new bar and bar-top. PLANNING A PARTY OR RECEPTION? -- Worried about Mother Nature or not having enough room? Don’t forget, as a member, you can rent the hall or pavilion at very reasonable rates. If you would like information on renting either of these, please contact Jackie Hull @ 585-437-2581.Dates have already started filling up, so it’s a good idea to reserve dates early.
GROUNDS COMMITTEE Chairman Jack McMahon The grounds committee is planning a spring clean up in March, Lunch and “refreshments” on us. For info call Jack McMahon @ 585-437-2072 As you probably know we have 2 ponds on our property, the small pond is spring fed and contains trout which can not reproduce because they obviously can’t swim upstream to lay eggs. A year ago there were over 40 trout, there are now about 15. As members you are more then welcome to fish this pond, all we ask is that you release what you catch. A hawk has been seen on the roof of the pavilion also “fishing” in the pond, so it’s very possible it is the cause of the fish decline. The large pond is doing very well. It was stocked with some small mouth, 1or 2 large mouth and some blue gill. They seem to be reproducing very well and although we ask that you catch and release, that may change if the pond starts to get over loaded with fish. We will be posting the ponds, but the signs will only pertain to non-members.
RANGE COMMITTEE Chairman Harvey Wood All the temporary targets have been replaced with heavy duty posts with replaceable target tack boards. We are hoping to start some organized shoots (something different each week) in late spring, on 1or 2 Sundays a month from 1 - 3. The club will open at 3 instead of 5 on those days. Anyone with some ideas on shoots for shotgun, .22, .17, pistol, ect., or if you would like to help out , call Harvey Wood @ 585-437-2073. There is also talk of setting up a 3-D archery coarse on the trails behind the club.
